Around The Farm: November 24, 2016 - Urshela extends his hitting streak to 13 games in doubleheader

Giovanny Urshela extended his hitting streak to 13 games on a Thanksgiving day that was light on current Indians. This dearth of current Tribe farmhand action allows us to check in with some former indians who saw playing time on Thursday...

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

NOTE:  The Dominican Winter League (LIDOM) and Puerto Rican League (LBPRC) were off on Thursday.

Giovanny Urshela (Aguilas del Zulia - Game 1, 3B) - 2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI - Gio's hitting streak extended to 12 games with this multi-hit, multi-RBI effort.

Giovanny Urshela (Aguilas del Zulai - Game 2, 3B) - 1-3 - Not a great nightcap for Urshela, but enough to extend his hit streak to 13 games.  He is now batting .360/.371/.550 with 24 RBI in 27 games.

Kelvin De La Cruz  (Tiburones de La Guaira - Game 1, SP) - L (0-1), 3.1 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 earned), 3 BB, 1 K, 1 WP, 1 BK - De La Cruz's first decision of the season doesn't go his way as his second outing of the LVBP season fell well short of his November 11 debut (4 H, 2 BB, 3 K, in 4.1 shutout innings).

Elvis Araujo (Aguilas del Zulia - Game 2, RP) - 1 IP, 1 BB - Elvis pitches a solid inning in mop-up duty in his first outing in a week.

Carlos Rivero (Cardenales de Lara, 3B) - 1-4, 2 K, 1 SB - Rivero has at least one hit in four of his last five games, a stretch in which he is batting .350 (7-for-20), compared to .216 in his last ten and .196 in 39 games this season.

Wander Beras (Bravos de Margarita, SP) - ND, 5 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K - Beras' solid start was undone by a lack of run support and a rough sixth inning by relief pitcher Carlos Navas (2 ER on two hits in an inning in which the Oakland farmhand struck out the side).

Luis Hernandez (Caribes de Anzoategui, SS) - 1-4, 1 E - Hernandez makes it back-to-back games with a hit for the first time in two weeks as he tries to get out of his recent slump (.211/.268/.237 in his last ten compared to .254/.316/.324 in 19 games this Venezuelan season).

Michael Choice (Charros de Jalisco, LF) - 1-5, 1 R, 2 K - The good news:  Choice has hits in five of his last seven games.  The bad news:  Only one of those is a multi-hit effort.

Quincy Latimore (Mayos de Navojoa, DH) - 0-5, 1 BB, 1 K - Latimore has five hitless efforts and two multi-hit games in his last seven appearances.  This is almost the definition of feast or famine.

Bryan LaHair (Tomateros de Culiacan, 1B) - 0-4, 1 HBP - I'm not sure what's worse, not getting on base or getting on base once but only because you got hit by a pitch.

Andrew Campbell (Brisbane Bandits, RF) - 2-5, 1 R, Picked off 1 time - Campbell extends his hitting streak to three games and has hits in four of his five games played and a ,350/.409/.400 slash line this ABL season.

Mitch Nilsson (Brisbane Bandits, 2B) - 0-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K - As he did in his other hitless outing (same stat line as on November 19), Nilsson made up for a bad hitting day with good plate discipline.
