Around The Farm: November 30, 2016 - Rodriguez, Pantoja each collect a pair of hits

On a quiet night for Indians in offseason leagues, Ronny Rodriguez and Alexis Pantoja led the way with multi-hit evenings.

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note: The Indians do not currently have any minor leaguers in the Mexican Pacific League.

  • Ronny Rodriguez (Aguilas Cibaenas, 2B): 2-4, 2 R, 3B – The Aguilas Cibaenas only managed five hits on Wednesday, but Rodriguez got two of those out of the leadoff spot. The infielder has been hot this offseason, batting .330 (32-for-97) in 26 games with 14 extra base hits and 12 RBI. His 21 strikeouts and three walks aren’t great, though.
  • Abraham Almonte (Toros del Este, CF): 1-4 – Batting third for the Toros del Este, Almonte collected one hit to bring his offseason average to .238 (5-for-21) in five games. He’s driven in one, walked once and has struck out twice.

  • Alexis Pantoja (Tiburones de Aguadilla, SS): 2-3 – Pantoja has hit the ball well this offseason and has collected two consecutive two-hit games and has three in his last six. He’s batting .379 in his last 10 games and is hitting .324 (11-for-34) in 13 games in the Puerto Rican League.

  • Giovanny Urshela (Aguilas del Zulia, 3B): 0-3, 1 RBI, SF – This was only Urshela’s second hitless games in his last eight. For the season, the third baseman is hitting .359 in 128 at-bats and has collected 27 RBI in 32 games.
