- The Brian Dozier rumors are continuing to sizzle. For many weeks now a potential deal between the Minnesota Twins and Los Angeles Dodgers surrounding the second baseman has been speculated but it appears the Dodgers are facing some competition for the services of the slugging second baseman. The Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals have reportedly joined in the fray and are also engaged in talks on a potential deal to acquire Dozier per Darren Wolfson of 1500 ESPN. The Cardinals appear to be more serious suitors than the Nats at the moment but the Nationals remain in dialogue with the Twins. Dozier had a career year in 2016 as he hit .268/.340/.546 with 42 home runs and 99 RBIs. His monster year has caught the eye of several teams as they would love to fit his power in their lineup. The Cardinals have planned to start Kolten Wong at second base but clearly are exploring their options with Dozier being put on the trade block. It’s a little tougher to imagine where Dozier fits in with the Nationals as second base is currently occupied by Daniel Murphy but a potential solution would be if the Nationals move Murphy to first and let Dozier handle second base and perhaps move Ryan Zimmerman to the bench or attempt to move him in a trade for Dozier or move him separately although with his lucrative contract that is a lot easier said than done.
- The Colorado Rockies have signed utility infielder Alexi Amarista to a one-year deal per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. His deal will also contain a club option for the 2018 season. Amarista has always been known for his glove work and not his bat so he will most likely be utilized to spell relief for the Rockies’ infielders at several points during the season.
