Around the Farm: January 2, 2017

The playoffs kicked into gear in winter ball and the IBI's Nick Roth recaps the performances for Indians players still playing and involved in the postseason...

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Liga de Beisbol Dominicano:

Erik Gonzalez (SS, Leones del Escogido) 0-4, 2 SO. Erik Gonzalez had a rare, unsuccessful night at the plate as this was his first game in his last seven played that he failed to record a hit or a walk. This game cold be attributed to rust as this was Gonzalez’s first game played in since December 22nd due to a break in the Dominican schedule. Prior to the break, Gonzalez has hit well in winter ball. He is hitting .273 with an OBP of .329 in 21 games thus far this offseason.

Ronny Rodriguez (1B, Aguilas Cibaenas) 1-3. Despite connecting for a single, it was a rather uneventful night at the dish for Ronny Rodriguez. Rodriguez has seen success this offseason givwn his batting average sits at .306 after 44 games in the Dominican. Even more impressive for Rodriguez is his .362 OBP throughout this same stretch. Rodriguez is known as being an aggressive hitter so his high on base percentage is an encouraging sign to show he can maintain balance at the dish.

Liga Venezuela Beisbol Professional:

Jesus Aguilar (1B, Bravos de Margarita) 2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 BB. In the first Venezuelan postseason games of the season, Aguilar continued to rake in what has been a very solid winter ball campaign for him. Aguilar hit for an impressive .314 this offseason which is even a bigger accomplishment for a power hitter who doesn’t normally hit for average. Even with this high average Aguilar has kept his power numbers as he has crushed 10 homers and racked up 22 RBIs in 42 games in Venezuela.
