Around The Farm: January 4, 2017 - Gonzalez collects two hits, two RBI

On a quiet night around the farm, it was Erik Gonzalez who stole the show in the Dominican Republic.

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Note: The Indians do not currently have any minor leaguers in the Mexican Pacific League, and the Venezuelan Winter League was off on Wednesday.

  • Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, SS): 2-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K – In six postseason games, Gonzalez has now compiled a .231 average in 26 at-bats and has driven in three. He has scored five runs, walked just once and struck out six times. His playoff performance is slightly below his regular season output, where he hit .273 with 12 RBI in 21 games.
  • Ronny Rodriguez (Aguilas Cibaenas, 1B): 0-4, 4 K, E, SAC – Rodriguez had about as ugly a night as possible on Wednesday. Beyond striking out in each of his four at-bats, he also committed a throwing error. He has still been red hot in the Dominican Winter League postseason, batting .400 (12-for-30) with four runs, four doubles and four RBI over seven games.

  • Gian Paul Gonzalez (Gigantes de Carolina, C): 0-3, 3 K – Similar to Rodriguez over in the Dominican Republic, Gonzalez didn’t have the best showing on Wednesday. In Puerto Rico, Gonzalez also struck out in all of his at-bats and is still hitless this offseason.
