Moments after the Edwin Encarnacion signing was made official in the form of a press conference on Thursday morning, Cleveland Indians Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Bob DiBiasio made the announcement that Billy Joel will be coming to Progressive Field for a concert on Friday, July 14th at 8 PM.
“Billy Joel is described as an American pianist, singer, songwriter, composer,” said DiBiasio. “It was in 1973, with the release of his first song that his moniker would become the Piano Man. Billy Joel has incredible ties to Cleveland, he will be forever tied to the history of our neighbors next-door (Quicken Loans Arena) and he was the first artist to perform at the Q (formerly the Gund Arena)."
In conjunction with Live Nation, a global entertainment company partnered with Ticketmaster, the rock star will be making his debut at the Cleveland ballpark in what figures to be a can’t-miss mid-summer classic.
With a snow-drenched baseball field in the distance of Progressive Field’s Infinity Club on an early January morning, the thought of a rock concert under the setting sun sounded like an ideal occasion for those in attendance.
Along with the announcement, DiBiaso and Larry Doby Jr. showcased a preview video that highlighted Joel’s accomplishments and accolades throughout his well-documented career.
“He (Joel) recently returned to the Q in 2014 to celebrate the building’s 20th anniversary,” DiBiasio said. “What a night it will be, treating fans across the region to an extraordinary night of music. We are thrilled to host to this iconic show.”
With a venue like Progressive Field and an artist like Billy Joel, the event undoubtedly will be a hit.
Tickets for the concert will be on sale beginning on Monday, January 13th at 10 AM from the Progressive Field box office.
