Around The Farm: January 14, 2017

Joe Colon continues to pitch well in winter ball as the league playoffs enter the championship series phase. The IBI's Arthur Kinney takes us around the farm to review all the Indians related action in winter ball on Saturday...

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Erik Gonzalez (Leones del Escogido, starting SS) -1-3, 2 K - Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to three games but struck out in his other two plate appearances before being pinch hit for by Mexican Leaguer Pedro Lopez in the ninth inning of an 11-1 blowout loss to the Tigres del Licey.

Anderson Hernandez (Tigres del Licey, 2B) - 1-4,1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K - Hernandez extended his hitting streak to four games and drove in his second run in his last three games.

Edward Paredes (Leones del Escogido, RP) - 0.1 IP, 1 H,1 K - Paredes' short outing was one of the Leones' pitching highlights on Saturday.

Jose Constanza (Aguilas Cibaenas - Game 1, CF) - 2-5, 1 SB - Constanza's first multi-hit game of the Round Robin phase of the playoffs and his second of the winter season wasn't enough for the Aguilas to win the opener of their doubleheader against the Gigantes del Cibao.

Jose Constanza (Aguilas Cibaenas - Game 2, LF) - 1-5, 3 K - Constanza also played in the nightcap, but performed much worse at the plate, picking up his only hit in the ninth with the game out of reach.

Rafael Perez (Gigantes del Cibao - Game 1, RP) - H (1), 0.2 IP, 1 H - Perez was one of two former Indians to pick up a hold on Saturday.

Colt Hynes (Gigantes del Cibao - Game 1, RP) - H (2), 0.2 IP, 1 K - Hynes was the other ex-Wahoo to get a hold on Saturday, also in a two-out appearance.

Aguilas Cibaenas - 11-4
Gigantes del Cibao - 7-8
Tigres del Licey - 7-8
Leones del Escogido - 5-10

Joseph Colon (Cangrejeros de Santurce, RP) -1 IP, perfect, 2 K - Colon, like everyone who took the mound in yesterday's Game 1 pitcher's duel, pitched well.  This isn't surprising as he was unscored upon in 1.0 IP in two appearances in the semifinal round.

Fernando Cabrera (Cangrejeros de Santurce, RP) - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K - Cabrera followed Colon's spectacular eighth inning with a solid ninth, but it wasn't enough to keep the Criollos de Caguas from taking Game 1 of the LBPRC Serie Final 1-0.
