Around The Farm: January 22, 2017 - Ronny-Rod held hitless for first time in Serie Final

While the lone Indian to play in winter ball on Sunday didn't get a hit, there were notable performances from ex-Indians. Read about all of the Sunday outings by Indians, both current and former, as the IBI's Arthur Kinney takes you Around The Farm...

Around the Farm (ATF) takes a quick look at some of yesterday’s performances by Indians players throughout the system. This is a special fall and winter ball version of ATF that recaps all the offseason action by Indians players in the Caribbean Leagues and Arizona Fall League. The positions listed below are where the player was playing in yesterday’s game.

Ronny Rodriguez (Aguilas Cibaenas, 1B) - 0-4, 2 K - Ronny-Rod has a hitless game for the first time in the Serie Final.  However, he is still having a solid Serie, batting .294/.294/.471 in four games.

Jairo Asencio (Tigres del Licey, RP) - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (earned) - While he didn't earn a save, Asencio closed out a 9-6 win for the Tigres which tied the best-of-nine Serie at two games apiece.

J.C. Romero (Cangrejeros de Santurce, RP) - 1 IP, 1 BB - Romero's solid eighth inning was part of 7.1 IP of four-hit shutout baseball from the Cangrjeros bullpen.  Unfortunately, it was not enough to overcome Hiram Burgos 'disastrous start (1.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R [all earned], 1 K) and a near-complete lack of run support as the Criollos de Caguas won 4-1.

Fernando Cabrera (Cangrejeros de Santurce, RP) - 1 IP, perfect - Cabrera followed with a perfect ninth for Santurce, who need wins on both Wednesday and Thursday to stave off elimination and win the Puerto Rican title.  Don't ask me why there's a two-day break in the series, I have no idea.

Mitch Nilsson (Brisbane Bandits, 2B) - 1-3, 2 R, 2 BB, 2 K - Nilsson extended his hitting streak to eight games on Sunday, although he was unable to continue his two-game multi-RBI streak.

Ryan Battaglia (Brisbane Bandits, PR-backup 1B) - no plate appearances - Battaglia's first appearance in two weeks consisted of pinch running for starting 1B David Sutherland in the seventh inning and playing the last two innings in the field.

Andrew Campbell (Brisbane Bandits, starting RF) - 0-2 - Campbell continues to struggle at the plate, batting only .111 (2-for-18) in his last seven games.

Melbourne Aces - 24-12
Adelaide Bite - 20-16
Canberra Cavalry - 19-17
Brisbane Bandits - 18-17
Sydney Blue Sox - 14-21
Perth Heat - 12-24

The Aguilas de Mexicali defeated the Caneros de Los Mochis 7-2 to even the Mexican Pacific League (LMP) Serie Final at one game apiece.  Game 3 is tomorrow.

The Venezuelan Winter League (LVBP) Serie Final had a travel day on Sunday.  The Aguilas del Zulia lead the best-of-seven two games to none.  Game 3 is tonight.
