The Cleveland Indians outfield conversation continues to get more interesting as each day of spring training passes by in Goodyear, AZ.
Austin Jackson was the next player to make a statement by notching two doubles and three RBIs as part of a 6-5 win against the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.
Also making noise in the one-run victory was Abraham Almonte with a double and Michael Martinez with his fourth multi-hit performance of 2017.
Two different three-run spurts of offense in the first and fourth innings gave the Tribe an insurmountable advantage.
At the forefront of the rallies was Jackson with an RBI double and two-run double in each respective frame.
"One thing that has kind of stood out in a really positive manner is his bat speed and his aggressiveness at the plate," said bench coach Brad Mills to reporters after the contest. "To see that aggressiveness right away, in his first few games when he plays, is pretty cool."
Almonte collaborated with the 30-year-old journeyman and knocked him in on a scorching two-bagger just past former teammate Rajai Davis.
Martinez was responsible for the remaining portion of the home offense by lacing a single to plate Richie Shaffer (double).
Taking care of business
It was another day at the office for the bullpen quartet comprised of Dan Otero, Kyle Crockett, Hoby Milner and Tyler Olson.
Aside from Otero's one-hit scoreless inning, each pitcher did not allow a base knock in the third, eighth and ninth. The former three hurlers earned a hold while Olson struck out the final two Oakland hitters to get his first spring save after making 26 outings from 2015-17.
The H-E-B Big League Weekend commences tomorrow between the Indians and Rangers from the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX.
Slated to start the first of two exhibition games will be Danny Salazar and A.J. Griffin.
Also on tap for Friday night is the battle of Ohio against the Cincinnati Reds featuring Corey Kluber vs. Brandon Finnegan at Goodyear Ballpark.
