- The Atlanta Braves have taken an early hit to their offense as they are placing left fielder Matt Kemp on the 10-day DL due to a hamstring injury per a team announcement. He reportedly has been dealing with the injury since last week in Friday’s game and he was hoping a couple days off would do him good and the injury would go away but it is still bothering him. The Braves are now placing him on the 10-day DL in order to give him the proper time to nurse it back to health and not risk it becoming a nagging issue throughout the entire season. Kemp has become a huge part of the Braves offense in his short time in Atlanta. After arriving at the trade deadline from the San Diego Padres, he hit .280/.336/.519 and clobbered 12 home runs and 39 RBIs in just 56 games with the Braves through the second half of last season. He helped revitalize a largely dormant Braves offense and provided key veteran leadership down the stretch and helped lead the team to playing winning ball again. He’s already hit two home runs and has 4 RBIs in the early season with the Braves so losing him in the heart of the order will be difficult and he will be replaced by minor league infielder Johan Camargo.
- The injuries are already starting up for the San Francisco Giants. The team is expected to place catcher Buster Posey on the 7-day DL after taking a baseball off the helmet during the game Monday against the Arizona Diamondbacks per Alex Pavlovich of NBC Sports Bay Area. He is reportedly feeling okay but the Giants aren’t willing to gamble on his health when it comes to a head injury, especially this early in the season thus why they are sending him to the concussion DL.
- The Seattle Mariners are also placing a key member of their lineup on the DL as shortstop Jean Segura is heading to the 10-day DL due to a strained hamstring per a team announcement. The shortstop suffered the injury in Monday’s game against the Houston Astros. The club does not expect the injury to be serious and expect him to be back in short order.
