2017 Cleveland Indians 13th Round Draft Pick: Angel Lopez Alvarez, C from Northampton Community College

In the 13th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Cleveland Indians have selected catcher Angel Lopez Alvarez with the 402nd overall pick.

At pick 402 in the 13th round, the Cleveland Indians have selected catcher Angel Lopez Alvarez out of Northampton Community College

Born: 3/14/97 — Height: 5'10" — Weight: 194 — Bats: Right — Throws: Right

Jeff Ellis: Angel Alvarez is a catcher from the JUCO ranks. He is a lot like Michael Rivera, a defensive-minded catcher with a chance to be an above average to plus defender. He put up huge numbers this past year. He hit over .400 with double-digit home runs and nearly a three to one walk to strikeout ratio. He is likely to sign and could be ticketed to Mahoning Valley, but I would think as a small school JUCO player, Arizona is most likely.

Press Release: Led the Spartans (ranked 5th nationally in NJCAA) with a .411 batting average (58-for-141), 14 homers (school record) and 62 RBI (school record) in 44 games played…also stole 14 bases and was named First Team All-Region by NJCAA.
