2017 Cleveland Indians 16th Round Draft Pick: Nick Gallagher, RHP from the University of Iowa

In the 16th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Nick Gallagher with the 492nd overall pick.

At pick 492 in the 16th round, the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Nick Gallagher out of the University of Iowa.

Born: 9/9/95 — Height: 6'3" — Weight: 200 — Bats: Right — Throws: Right

Jeff Ellis: Nick Gallagher seemed like the most likely Iowa player to be selected first at the start of the year. Instead, he was the third player from Iowa, even though he had another strong year. He has limitations but fits the type of arms that the Indians target. His walk rate was a little over two this year. His home run rate was up which led to a higher ERA this year. There is a chance for a back end starter or maybe a lefty reliever down the road.

Press Release: Led the Hawkeyes with 8 wins in both his sophomore and junior seasons, compiling a 16-5 record with a 3.01 ERA in his three years at Iowa…member of the 2017 Big Ten Tournament championship team and was named a Big Ten Tournament All-Tournament Team selection in 2016.
