2017 Cleveland Indians 20th Round Draft Pick: Teaney Jonathan, RHP from University of San Diego

In the 20th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Jonathan Teaney with the 612nd overall pick.

At pick 612 in the 20th round, the Cleveland Indians have selected right-handed pitcher Jonathan Teaney out of the University of San Diego.

Born: 1/28/96 — Height: 6'1" — Weight: 190 — Bats: Right — Throws: Right

Jeff Ellis: Jonathan Teaney has Ohio ties as his grandfather played college baseball at Ohio University. I would need to research to see if his grandfather played with Mike Schmidt when he was there. Teaney was drafted out of high school by the Mets. He was one of the top strikeout pitchers in high school baseball as a senior. He has some control struggles coming out of the bullpen, particularly the last three years for San Diego. He posted strong strikeout totals in college and will likely continue to work out of the 'pen. He signed for the full slot value already and should head to Mahoning Valley.

Press Release: Went 5-1 as a reliever for the Toreros in his junior season, striking out 50 batters in 39.0 innings (11.54 K/9.0IP).
