In what was a pitchers duel for the first 8 innings of the game, ULM erupted for four runs on five hits in the top of the 9th inning.
With the game tied at 3, two outs, and 2 on base, Ben Soignier stepped to the plate and smoked a 2 run double to center field giving ULM a 5-3 lead.
Catcher Ryan McMillan added to the lead when he laced a base hit to center field and Soignier beat the throw home extending the lead to 6-3. Matt Collins put the finishing touches on the inning as he roped a triple to center field scoring McMillan all the way from first base.
Jordy Poche had another great outing on the mound giving up only 5 hits in seven innings of work. Poche struck out four and walked 3 and got a no decision.
Reliever Drew Graham came on in the 8th and had a 1, 2, 3 inning but surrendered a 2 run homer to Nick Criaris in the bottom of the ninth to make the game a lot tighter at 7-5. It was Criaris's second home run of the day.
The Warhawks will fly home later tonight and arrive back in Monroe tomorrow morning. ULM will then travel to take on Northwestern State this Tuesday before returning home for a non conference game between Mississippi State Wednesday night.
