Indians' Top Prospects: No. 8

For each of the past 15 years, Indians Ink Magazine has ranked the top prospects in the Cleveland farm system. It began as a top 10 list and turned into a top 50 early this decade. This is our third year ranking the top 100 Tribe minor-leaguers. It factors a player's potential, accomplishments, how he's moved in the system, and projects it to what he could bring to the major-league team.

No. 8 -- David Huff

The David Huff File

Born:
Aug. 22, 1984 in San Diego, CA
Position: Starting Pitcher
B/T: S/L
HT/WT: 6-2/190
Acquired: Sandwich draft pick (39th overall) in 2006 from UCLA.
Strengths: Has turned his breaking ball into a quality pitch. Throws both a slider and curve. Has excellent command of his fastball. Is a student of the game and has a plan every time he takes the mound.
Weaknesses: Sometimes throws too many strikes, allowing hitters to get comfortable. Does not have an overpowering fastball. Needs to avoid trying to do too much.
2009 Projection: Will challenge for a spot in Tribe's rotation in the spring, but will likely start season in Columbus's rotation.
