The California League announced their Postseason All-Stars on Wednesday, and among those recognized for their efforts during the 2012 regular season where four players and two coaches from the Mariners organization.
High Desert Mavericks manager Pedro Grifol, hitting coach Roy Howell, catcher John Hicks, outfielder Leon Landry, utilityman Steven Proscia and left-hander Roenis Elias were among the 14 players and five field staff members selected as the best in the 10-team California League. The Mavericks won the First Half in the South Division and followed that up by steamrolling through the Second Half on their way to any easy division win there and the best record in the league by nine games with five to play as of Wednesday night.
The Mavericks offense -- always a strength in the great hitting environment of heat and high winds -- is within reach of several team stat records, including runs (924 in '96), RBI (850 in '05), AVG (.301 in '05), SLG (.501 in '05) and OPS (.868 in '05). They are also within reasonable chase of besting the California League record for team batting average of .308, set by the 1977 Lodi Dodgers.
