13 Mariners' Prospects Crack BA's Top-20s

We do our own rankings for the Mariners prospects here at SeattleClubhouse, but it is good to check in with what the other sources are saying now and then to try and grab some non-biased opinions of how the organization is performing. Baseball America has been giving their opinion on the Top-20 prospects in each league over the last week or two, and 13 M's farmhands made their lists.

We are currently right in the middle of our initial Organization Top-50 Prospect ranking here at SeattleClubhouse with 25 players down and 25 yet to go, but over at Baseball America, they are just wrapping up their annual series of the Top-20 prospects from each league. I wanted to take time to acknowledge the work done over there and give you a rundown of where the Mariners prospects sat on BA's rankings for their respective leagues.

They started in the low (stateside) minors and worked their way up, and along the way hit each league that houses the M's seven affiliates in the U.S.: the Arizona Rookie League Peoria M's, the Appalachian League Pulaski M's, the Northwest League Everett AquaSox, the Clinton LumberKings of the Midwest League, the High Desert Mavericks from the California League, the Southern League Jackson Generals and the Pacific Coast League Tacoma Rainiers. Each of those teams was represented in the list, and two of the M's midseason acquisitions made the list in their former leagues, too, giving the Mariners the fourth most players represented on the rankings. Coincidentally enough, 11 of the 12 players covered that are still minor leaguers (i.e., no Ackley) are in our top 25 prospects at SeattleClubhouse, so only one has been covered so far by our in-depth rankings here.

Some of these players made big impressions in a short time in their respective leagues, others made it based on their full season of work. Here now are the 13 players together with their Baseball America ranking for their leagues:

Phillips Castillo, OF, AZL #2

Martin Peguero, SS, AZL #20

Guillermo Pimentel, OF APPY #14

Jose Campos, SP, NWL #3
