Seven Generals All-Star Bound

The Mariners Double-A squad -- named as the most talented team in the minor leagues prior to the season by Baseball America -- fills over one-quarter of the All-Star roster.

The best team in the minor leagues continues to live up to all of the high praise. Seven Jackson Generals are scheduled to head to Kodak, TN on June 19th to take part in the 2012 Southern League All-Star game.

Catcher Jesus Sucre, shortstop Nick Franklin, center fielder Denny Almonte, designated hitter Joe Dunigan and pitchers Carter Capps, Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker all were named to the 25-man North Division roster this morning.

Assuming all of the selected players participate, the first place Generals (36-23) will represent 28% of the All-Star roster for the five-team North Division. Hultzen is leading the league in ERA (1.44), WHIP (0.99) and ranks 2nd in strikeouts (67). Franklin entered play this morning 2nd in AVG (.333), SLG (.540) and OPS (.943) while ranking 3rd in OBP (.403). Dunigan and Almonte are tied for 5th in the league in HR with eight each and Sucre ranks 4th among Southern League catchers in RBI with 21 and also sports a .313 AVG. Capps -- moved into the closer role for Jackson when Stephen Pryor was promoted to Tacoma -- leads all relievers in the league with 44 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings while posting a 1.53 ERA.

Voting for the All-Star team was done by the League's managers, radio broadcasters, General Managers and print media that covers the teams.
