M's Prospect Watch: All-Rookie Team
Robert Rohrbaugh, LHP
14 G/12 GS, 5-2, 3.84 ERA, 68 IP, 68 H, 71 K, 18 BB, 7 HR, .262 BAA
Clemson product was stellar in Midwest League playoffs after a solid summer in Everett. Ready for the Cal League?
Jeff Gilmore, RHP
12 G/8 GS, 5-1, 3.97 ERA, 56.2 IP, 55 H, 57 K< 13 BB, 9 HR, .253 BAA
Right-hander from Stanford got comfortable in Everett, becoming one of Pedro Grifol's most reliable arms.
Harold Williams, LHP
14 G/10 GS, 3-3, 3.10 ERA, 61 IP, 49 H, 59 K, 27 BB, 4 HR, .266 BAA
Left-hander out of Cerritos College was a 2004 draftee, signing this spring and reporting to Peoria for duty. Williams earned a promotion to Everett and was solid in three starts.
Jon Lockwood, RHP
20 G, 5-0, 1.38 ERA, 3 Sv., 45.2 IP, 21 H, 62 K, 15 BB, 0 HR, .127 BAA
Lockwood's 16 scoreless innings earned him a trip to the Midwest League where he was nearly as dominant.
Edgar Guaramato, RHP
27 G, 1-3, 3.57 ERA, 35.1 IP, 20 H, 37 K, 22 BB, 1 HR, .183 BAA
The Venezuelan recovered from a slow start, turning on the strikeout switch and holding NWL batters to a .183 average.
Reed Eastley, 1B
55 G, .318/.434/.463, 13-2B, 2-3B, 4 HR, 28 RBI, 8 SB
Eastley's futire position keeps the former shortstop's prospect status up in the air, but his bat showed he can play - somewhere.
Luis Valbuena, 2B
74 G, .261/.333/.443, 10-2B, 3-3B, 12 HR, 51 RBI, 14 SB
Teenage second baseman led NWL in homers and RBI - remind anyone of former league MVP Ismael Castro?
Ronald Garth, 2B
27 G, .357/.430/.616, 10-2B, 5-3B, 3 HR, 15 RBI, 3 SB
Garth split time at second but his bat was potent in the Arizona heat. The 20-year-old may have enough offensively to progress through the system.
Ronald Prettyman, 3B
58 G, .278/.336/.419, 11-2B, 2-3B, 6 HR, 27 RBI, 7 SB
Strong with the glove, Prettyman was solid at the plate, showing advanced plate skills and some pop in his lefty stick.
Robby Hudson, SS
55 G, .253/.302/.306, 8-2B, 1-3B, 16 RBI, 6 SB
Hudson solidified the Sox defense at shortstop, and even though his bat was quiet, he found a way to allow his manager to rest easy at night with his glove play.
John Tucker, C
48 G, .259/.361/.580, 19-2B, 2-3B, 11 HR, 36 RBI, 4 SB
Tucker, 23, was nothing short of sensational offensively, posting a ridiculous .580 slugging percentage and hitting 11 homers in just 48 games. His defense is more than adequate as well.
Jeff Clement, C
34 G, .315/.388/.508, 5-2B, 6 HR, 20 RBI, 1 SB
Clement fought off a tough first 10 days as a pro to hit six home runs and display the sock that the Mariners front office was looking for this past June.
Sebastien Boucher, OF
100 G, .340/.430/.468, 28-2B, 5-3B, 4 HR, 52 RBI, 26 SB
Boucher's numbers are better than they first appear - look at his overall slugging percentage of .468. That mark ranks higher than all but five prospects that played a full season in 2005.
Michael Saunders, OF
56 G, .270/.361/.474, 13-2B, 3-3B, 7 HR, 39 RBI, 2 SB
Saunders, 18, signed in May and became a very productive hitter in the Northwest League. The left-handed hitter was a Draft-and-Follow from the '04 draft.
Oswaldo Graterol, OF
30 G, .345/.446/.464, 3-2B, 2-3B, 2 HR, 25 RBI, 7 SB
Though it's difficult to evaluate Graterol's talents by his numbers alone, the 21-year-old Venezuelan showed solid plate discipline in his first season in the US.
