On a mission to prove that he is not a one year wonder, Dontrelle Willis turned in another brilliant performance on Tuesday going 6.2 innings giving up only 1 unearned run off of 4 hits and no walks while striking out 3.

Holding the lead with 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th, manager Jack McKeon turned the game over to his bullpen which is leading the National League in ERA, and once again the bullpen delivered. Chad Fox went 1.1 innings giving up no hits while walking 1 and striking out 2. Closer Armando Benitez grabbed his 7th save of the season after pitching a perfect 9th.

The Marlins grabbed the lead in top of the first off of Mike Lowell's 8th RBI of the season which came when his single scored Juan Pierre. Then in the second inning Juan Pierre delivered an RBI single of his own scoring Mike Redmond. Miguel Cabrera delivered his 10th RBI of the season in the 7th when his single scored Juan Pierre.

Offensive stars for the game were Juan Pierre's 2-4 effort with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Luis Castillo went 2-4, Miguel Cabrera went 1-4 with an RBI, and Mike Lowell 1-5 with an RBI.

The downside for the game however is that offensively the Marlins left 20 men on base.

The Marlins and Phillies play the second game of their three game set with Carl Pavano set to go for the Marlins and Eric Milton to start for the Phillies. Game time is set for 7:05 pm.
