Former Mets assistant general manager Omar Minaya is looking to add an arm to the back end of his bullpen, and, according to the Montreal Gazette, he is extremely confident he can land the services of either Benitez or Texas' Ugueth Urbina.
He also likes middle reliever David Weathers.
The Marlins are also in hot pursuit of the Met closer and this war between suitors (Padres, Mariners, Yankees, Royals, Red Sox) could benefit Duquette. Currently, they are looking to deal Benitez to Florida for former No. 1 overall pick Adrian Gonzalez, the New York Post reports.
Montreal prospects Josh Karp and Seung Song top Duquette's list if a deal were to be made with the Expos.
Dodgers general manager Dan Evans was waiting for the reports on outfielder Brian Jordan before he made a move to improve his offense. With recent news stating that he will be undergoing season-ending surgery on his left knee Friday, Los Angeles could deal for the Met slugger rather quickly.
Published reports have also stated that the Twins are interested.
The Giants have been pursuing the right-hander for over a week and with Tuesday night's injury to Kirk Rueter, San Francisco is looking to strike a deal with the Mets shortly. Trachsel -- who has won his past three outings -- is 8-5 on the season with a 4.10 ERA and has not allowed more than three runs in his past five starts.
San Francisco is also interested in Pittsburgh's Kris Benson.
