Burnitz Shipped West to Dodgers

First was Roberto Alomar. Now it's Jeromy Burnitz. The New York Mets shipped the outfielder to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Tuesday evening in exchange for minor league pitchers Joselo Diaz and Kole Strayhorn and infield prospect Victor Diaz.

The Dodgers have also agreed to pay "a significant portion" of Burnitz's remaining 2003 salary, which is roughly $2 million.

"As far as Jeromy is concerned, he's really looking forward to the opportunity to contribute in a place where there's a contender," agent Howard Simon said to the Associated Press.

The key player in the deal for the Mets is second basemen Victor Diaz, who was rated as the 13th best prospect in the Los Angeles organization by Baseball America. The 21-year old hits for average and racks up extra-base hits.
