Benitez Shipped to Cross-Town Yankees

After hours of speculation, the Mets and Yankees final pulled the trigger. Jim Duquette continued the fire sale, only a few days after trading Jeromy Burnitz to the Dodgers, by shipping troubled closer Armando Benitez to the Yankees on Wednesday evening in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jason Anderson, Anderson Garcia and Ryan Bicondoa.

The New York Yankees will pay the what's left of the $6.75 million that Benitez is owed this season, which believed to be $2,729,508.

The Mets closer, acquired from the Orioles prior the 1999 season, is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA in 45 games this season and has converted 21 of 28 save situations.
