On the first day of the Dominican Winter League's round-robin postseason, the Aguilas Cibaenas fell to the Leones del Escogido, 8-2. Aguilas speedster Leury Garcia saw action as a ninth-inning pinch hitter and walked in his only plate appearance.
Although the 21-year-old Garcia played with the Gigantes del Cibao during the regular season, he has joined the Aguilas for the postseason. Cibao failed to qualify for the playoffs.
During the regular season, Garcia appeared in 37 games and posted a .285/.335/.375 slash line with nine stolen bases in 11 attempts.
Starting pitcher Joucer Martinez pitched well for the Tigres de Aragua on Thursday, though he struggled with command. Throwing 39 of his 76 pitches for a strike, Martinez allowed just an unearned run in 4.1 innings. He permitted three hits, walked two, and struck out one.
After being absent from affiliated ball for three full seasons, Martinez signed a minor league deal with the Rangers earlier this offseason. The 26-year-old righty has the following stat-line in winterball––14.0 ip, 14 h, 6 er, 5 bb, 8 k.
Martinez (and his intriguing story) was profiled in this recent story.

Lara's Guilder Rodriguez entered as a pinch-runner in the bottom of the ninth inning. He didn't get a plate appearance.
The Liga Paralela season concluded on Friday with Magallanes finishing off Tampa Bay in the best-of-three championship series.
Jose Felix split Thursday's game between first base and catcher. At the plate, the Mexico native had one single in four at-bats, and he even added a rare stolen base.
Ponce triumphed over Manati, 11-9, in a 15-inning marathon that took longer than five hours to complete.
Getting the start behind the plate, Zach Zaneski bumped his batting average to .326 with his third consecutive three-hit performance. On Thursday, Zaneski singled three times and walked once in seven trips. He also had an RBI.
Jared Hoying, who entered as a pinch-hitter in the 12th inning, flew out and laid down a sacrifice bunt in his two plate appearances. He also picked up an assist from right field, gunning down a runner at third base.
Kevin Torres finished the game behind the plate after entering in the bottom of the 14th.
Ponce also got nine combined innings out of relievers Alexander Claudio and Alex de la Cruz.
Claudio, a 20-year-old sidearmer, worked a season-high 5.1 innings, giving up three runs on four hits. He struck out three without walking a batter.
De la Cruz was stuck with a blown save but pitched well, hurling 3.2 innings of one-run ball. The Puerto Rico native yielded four hits, walked one, and fanned three.
