MadFriars' Daily Farm Report: April 18

El Paso loses in a slugfest in Albuquerque but Dan Robertson has a monster night. San Antonio loses a rough one in eleven innings and the bats are starting to come alive in Lake Elsinore and Fort Wayne.

Albuquerque Isotopes 10 - Chihuahuas 6

Key Statistics: CF Cameron Maybin 2-5; 2B Dan Robertson 4-5, 2B 2 HR(2), 4 RBI; 3B-SS Brooks Conrad 2-3, 2B, BB; RHP Brandon Kloess (L, 1-1) 3.2 IP 11 H 9 R 9 ER 3 BB K HR; RHP Kevin Quackenbush 1.1 IP K.

Prospect Watch: The Isotopes took the lead with a five runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back, but that isn't the real story of the game...Dan Robertson, returning from extended spring in his first game back and in only his third professional game in the infield, had maybe the best night of his career falling a triple short of the cycle. In six seasons with the Padres he has a career line of .303/.381/.409. Robertson is a very good defensive outfielder at all three spots and you would like to hope that San Diego would give him an extended look in the infield...Cameron Maybin had his first multi-hit night of his rehab stint...OF Reymond Fuentes is off to a tough start with a .189/.268/.270 line.

Midland Rockhounds 4 -Missions 3 11 innings

Key Statistics:CF Travis Jankowski 2-5, SB; DH Rymer Liriano 3-5, 2B; 1B-C Jason Hagerty 0-3, 2 BB; C Austin Hedges 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI; 3B Jake Lemmerman 2-5, 2B; RHP Justin Hancock 4.0 IP 5 H 3 R 3 ER 5 BB; RHP Adys Portillo 2.0 IP H 4 BB 2 Ks; RHP Luis De La Cruz (L, 0-1) H R.

Prospect Watch: A tough loss for San Antonio De La Cruz gave up a single then threw a wild pitch advancing the batter to second base. Unfortunately for De La Cruz he followed that up with a two-base throwing error allowing the runner to score from the second for the deciding run of the game...2B Cory Spangenberg is on the 7-day disabled list...Right now SS Jace Peterson, who was 1-6 tonight, is the only regular that is hitting above .300...Hancock, despite not having his best stuff, was able to get out of the game without too much damage.

Storm 4 - Modesto Nuts 2

Key StatisticsCF Alberth Martiniez 1-3, BB; RF Corey Adamson 2-3, 2B; DH Hunter Renfroe 1-4, 2B, RBI; 2B Casey McElroy 3-4; 1B Duanel Jones 3-3, HR(1), RBI ; RHP Joe Ross 5.1 IP 4 H R ER 2 BB 6 Ks, RHP Trevor Gott (S, 4) 1.0 IP.

Prospect Watch: Hunter Renfroe's double in the eighth inning was the difference as the Storm won their fifth game in six tries...Second straight start for Joe Ross holding the opposition scoreless..Renfroe now has seven extra-base hits in 15 games to go with 24 strikeouts..Gott is now four for four in save opportunities.

TinCaps 9 - Peoria Chiefs 4

Key Statistics2B Josh VanMeter 2-5; 3B Dustin Peterson 2-4; RF Franmil Reyes 2-5, 2B; 1B Fernando Perez 2-4, 2 RBI; C Dane Phillips 2-3, 2B, 3 RBI, BB, SB; LF Joe Urena 2-5, 2B; DH Ronnie Richardson 2-5, SB; RHP Coby Cowgil 4.0 IP 2 H BB 3 Ks; RHP Genison Reyes (W, 1-0) 1.1 IP BB.

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps have now won three out four...C Dane Phillips continues to show that his bat doesn't belong in the Midwest League with a .385/.432/.667 line. With fellow catcher Ryan Miller also playing well Phillips could be flying west to Lake Elsinore soon...It's early in the season but RF Franmil Reyes' OPS has gone up nearly 200 points in the last five games. This is a big, big man at six-foot-five and a "listed" 240 lbs...Both 2B Josh VanMeter, .364, and 3B Dustin Peterson, .369 are posting solid on-base percentages and also starting to hit...SS Franchy Cordero, who nearly everyone considers the top prospect in Fort Wayne this year, has struggled at the start with 22 strikeouts in 12 games but then again not many people didn't think a young Dominican playing for the first time in cold weather wouldn't be challenged...Reyes, at six-foot-five (is there anyone on this team that is not tall other than Ronnie Richardson?), has been very good out of the pen with 12 strikeouts in 8.2 innings against only three walks.
