Series Preview: Mets vs. Cubs

The New York Mets open a series against the Chicago Cubs starting on Tuesday and Amazin' Clubhouse's Ariel Epstein previews the battle between two National League Wildcard hopefuls.

After a devastating road trip, the Mets got themselves back over .500 with a sweep at home over the Cincinnati Reds. The Amazin (40-37) look to continue their winning ways concluding their home stand against the third place Chicago Cubs< (39-35).

Probable Pitchers:

Tuesday: Kyle Hendricks (2-4, 4.46 ERA) vs. Jonathon Niese (3-7, 4.12 ERA)

Hendricks has been inconsistent this season for the Cubs. Lately, he hasn’t been able to get out of the fifth inning and he’s given up a combined 10 runs in his last two starts.

Left-hander Jonathon Niese has a worse record than he deserves. He’s only given up at most three earned runs in the month of June, but the Mets offense has not been able to support him.

Wednesday: Jon Lester (4-6, 4.03 ERA) vs. Bartolo Colon (9-6, 4.89 ERA)

Lester hasn't been as dominant as he used to be. His ERA this year is higher than his career 3.60. In his last start, Lester wasn’t able to get out of the fourth throwing 75 pitches and giving up four earned runs.

Bartolo Colon has given up 10 earned
