THE WTA COMES TO NEW YORK
….Long Island to be Exact
Rockville Centre, NY- March 1, 2016 --The Empire State Open Tennis Tournament, a WTA 125K Series Event, will be held May 7th- May 15th, 2016 at Hempstead Lake State Park,
located in the heart of Western Nassau County. The event will feature stars of the WTA, as well as up and coming players currently fighting their way up the rankings ladder.
Local stars Alexa Graham (Garden City, NY) and Jamie Loeb (NYC) are amongst the first group of players to sign in.
The event will serve as an invaluable lead in to the French Open and will be the only WTA tournament contested on Long Island. Idyllically situated in Hempstead Lake State Park,
the event will boast 12 new, state of the art red clay courts, a 2,500+ seat main stadium, a 1,200+ seat “Stadium 2.” The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation – Long Island Region, is looking forward to hosting the first professional Women’s Tennis Tournament at Hempstead Lake State Park and partnering with the Empire State Open Organization,“ said Wayne Horsley (Regional Director).
Given the Empire State Open’s intention of inspiring a new generation of tennis fans, its opening qualifying rounds will be played on May 7th-May 9th and will kickoff with the Empire State Open Kentucky Derby Classic Day. The day will feature family-oriented events and items for all attendees.
