Jacob deGrom won't start Game 2 versus Royals

A new addition to the Mets family will bump back Jacob deGrom's scheduled start.

Jacob deGrom's wife could be expecting their newborn baby during MLB's opening week and the New York Mets are trying to put their ace pitcher's mind at ease. Manager Terry Collins named Noah Syndergaard the starter for the Amazin's second game of their two game series against the Kansas City Royals. The rematch of last year's World Series will be one of the most highly anticipated series opener's in recent memory, but New York is putting family first and bumping deGrom's start back to April 8 against the Philadelphia Phillies so he can witness the birth of his child.

New York opens a two game set in Kansas City before returning to Citi Field for their home opener against Philadelphia. Recent reports indicate that Collins is tinkering with the idea of pitching Syndergaard in relief in Game 2 of the Royals series and potentially using another starter in his place. Whatever combination the Mets skipper elects to use, they'll have revenge fresh in their minds at Kauffman Stadium.
