The New York Mets came into the weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers looking to re-create some of the magic from 1986 while celebrating the 30th anniversary of the last World Championship. Unfortunately that did not seem to come to fruition, as the Dodgers took 2 out of 3 this weekend. The weekend started off positively, as the Mets won in the bottom of the ninth. However, the could not withstand the Noah Syndergaard-Chase Utley controversy on Saturday, and went up against Cy Young favorite Clayton Kershaw on Sunday night. The Mets end the weekend where they started it, one game back from the Nationals. Here this weekend’s 3 stars:
Jacob deGrom: 7 IP, 1 ER 3 Hits, 7 K’s, 3 BB
deGrom’s gem on Friday was nearly undone by Jeurys Familia’s meltdown in the 9th inning, only to be bailed out by Curtis Granderson’s walk-off home run. deGrom is now 3-1 on the season, with a 2.81 ERA.
Curtis Granderson: 4-12, Double, Triple, Home Run, Run, 2 RBI’s
Granderson’s walk-off on Friday was the 2nd straight at home this week. His triple on Sunday tied the game at 2, just after Kershaw was pulled from the game, denying him the win.
Juan Lagares: 4-9, 2 Home Runs, 2 Runs, 4 RBI’s
In a weekend where once again, the team only managed 17 hits (9 came on Friday) Lagares is this weekend’s offensive leader. His Home Run Friday set the stage for Granderson’s walk-off, and homered in a pinch-hitting role Saturday to account for the Mets only run.
