Trachsel Stays Hot, Defeats Dodgers 4-0

Steve Trachsel just keeps on rolling. The veteran right-hander tossed 7 1/3 innings of shutout ball as the New York Mets cruised to a 4-0 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday evening. Jose Reyes added three hits and a homer to help the Mets take the middle game of the three game set.

Jason Phillips and Mike Piazza each drove home a run, Marco Scutaro had two hits with an RBI, and the bullpen finished the six-hitter as the Mets won for the eighth time in their last eleven games.

Steve Trachsel (13-7) scattered five hits over 7 1/3 to earn the victory. He is now 9-2 in his last fourteen starts and 4-0 with a 1.55 ERA since August 7.

New York (56-72) took a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first inning against Andy Asby (3-10) on Mike Piazza's sacrifice fly that plated Roger Cedeno and moved Jose Reyes up to third. Jason Phillips then came through with a run scoring single into left center.

Marco Scutaro's infield single allowed Ty Wigginton to score.

Jose Reyes' third homer of the season, a solo shot in the fifth, capped the scoring.

Los Angeles (67-61) managed just six hits in the contest.

Andy Ashby -- who entered 8-8 with a 3.37 ERA in 25 career appearances against the Mets -- tossed six innings, allowing eleven hits and four runs while walking one and fanning two.
