Opening Series Preview: Mets vs. Braves

The Amazin's will open their season against the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field.

The New York Mets begin their quest for the 2017 World Championship on Monday afternoon against the Atlanta Braves.  The Mets return a lineup that can produce some power as long as it stays healthy, and trips to the Disabled List are few and far between.  Even with injuries to Steven Matz and Julio Lugo to start the season, the rotation is still strong with Noah Syndergaard, Jacob deGrom, Matt Harvey, Zack Wheeler and Rafael Montero.

The Braves enter 2017 looking to improve on their 68-93 last place finish from 2016.  Young stars such as Dansby Swanson, Ender Inciarte, Julio Teheran and Jace Peterson are joined by veterans Bartolo Colon, R.A. Dickey, Matt Kemp and Freddie Freeman.

Opening Day History:

The Mets have one of the best winning percentages on Opening Day at 34-21  (.618).  The Braves have also enjoyed success, going 78-62-1(.553)

Weather Forecast:

Monday looks to be a perfect day for baseball in early April for New York, with some sunshine and temperatures in the 60’s.  After a day off on Tuesday, fans should luck out on Wednesday, with temperatures in the upper 50’s around game time.  Thursday looks to be an iffy day with rain in the forecast.

The 3 games against the Braves kick off a stretch of 32 straight games against the National League East for the Mets.  The Braves continue on with their 8 games on the road before opening SunTrust Park against San Diego on April 14.
