Eight Spot Enough to Defeat Cardinals

Trailing 3-0 the Brooklyn Cyclones scored eight runs in the fourth inning, and got dazzling relief pitching to put away the New Jersey Cardinals 9-5 Friday night at Skylands Park.

Jim Burt started the eight run inning with a two run triple to center field scoring Tyler Davidson and Derran Watts. After Aaron Hathaway reached on a fielder's choice scoring Burt, Corey Coles hit a three run home run to right field to make it 6-3 in favor of the Cyclones. The Cyclones got two more runs on a Derran Watts single, and on a Grant Psomas bases loaded walk.

Edgar Alfonzo and Celso Rondon combined for 5 1-3 innings of scoreless relief pitching. Alfonzo (2-0) got the win going 3 1-3 innings allowing two hits, walking two, while striking out five. Rondon, picking up his first save of the season pitched the final two innings allowing just one walk, and striking out five as well. Jeffrey Landing started the game going 3 2-3 inning allowing six hits, five runs, with three of them earned, while walking two and striking out three.

Tyler Davidson added a solo home run to left field in the ninth inning.

The Cyclones (9-6) head home for a two game weekend series with the Williamsport Crosscutters (6-9). Joseph Williams (1-0 2.51) will take the mound for the Cyclones Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00pm.
