Hyde Continues Stellar Pitching

Scott Hyde was impressive once again.

Hyde improved to 2-0 this season in the Cyclones 8-5 victory Tuesday night against the Aberdeen IronBirds. Hyde went 5 2-3 innings allowing just two hits, 1 run, two walks and striking out six. Hyde has a 1.41ERA in his four starts this year totaling to 19 2-3 innings.

Hyde walked lead off man Quincy Ascencion on four pitches, however Ascencion was quickly picked off by catcher Stacey Bennett. James Lofton would then reach on an error by first baseman Tyler Davidson, before Hyde buckled down and struck out the next two hitters.

Hyde would go on to retired seven in a row before giving up a solo home run to CJ Smith in the 4th inning.

The Cyclones jumped early on the IronBirds scoring a pair of runs in the second and third innings. With the bases loaded catcher Stacey Bennett walked to score Ambiorix Concepcion who reached base on a double to center field. Jim Burt made it 2-0 scoring on a wild pitch by pitcher Kyle Boehm. Ambiorix Concepcion made it 4-0 with a triple scoring Dante Brinkley and Matt Fisher.

The Cyclones would score 4 more runs in the 8th inning on an RBI single by Concepcion, a 2 run double by Jim Burt and an RBI single by Grant Psomas.

The Cyclones bullpen however had trouble keeping the 7 run lead. Will Quaglieri, who ironically lost his rotation spot to Hyde after suffering shoulder tendonitis, relieved Hyde, and allowed 2 runs and 3 hits in his 2 innings of work. Marcelo Perez followed Quaglieri and allowed 4 hits and 2 more runs in his 2-3 innings of work.

With the bases loaded and leading 8-5 Cyclones reliever Celso Rondon inherited a bases loaded situation with just 1 out. Rondon would hit James Lofton to make it a 8-4 game, and later walked Morgan Clendenin with the bases loaded which cut the Cyclones lead to 3. Rondon would get Evan Brannon to pop out, and would strike out Carl Smith to end the game.

The Cyclones head to Jamestown for a three game series with the Jammers, before coming back home on Saturday night against New Jersey. The Cyclones will be honoring the Negro Leagues by wearing replica uniforms of the Brooklyn Royal Giants.
