Minaya was viewed as an integral part of the Mets' braintrust during their run of success in the late part of the 1990s that also included future GM Jim Duquette. Minaya was also a popular liaison to some of the club's Latin players.
The Mets had hoped to bring Minaya back last season as a sort of co-general manager with Duquette, but Minaya declined the offer, reportedly because it may have been too awkward sharing the decision-making duties with Duquette.
If named the head of baseball operations, Minaya will become Duquette's boss. He told MLB.com that he would comment on the AP report Wednesday.
In losing his 14th game of the year, the second straight year he's lost that number of the games, Glavine saw his record against Atlanta diminish to 1-6 with a 8.76 ERA. The defeat also snapped the Mets' modest three-game winning streak.
The Mets took the first game of the twinbill, 2-1, behind a solid effort from Steve Trachsel. The righthander notched his 50th win as a Met, scattering three hits over six innings.
