Three Press Conferences in Three Days for Beltran

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Mets will introduce Carlos Beltran to the New York media this morning, but the Florida press contingent will get their crack at the $119 million man on Wednesday.

Beltran is slated to be in town for the Mets' mini-camp just one day after meeting and greeting the Big Apple press, although his stay won't be long.

According to a report in The New York Times, Beltran will be shuttled right back on a plane to Puerto Rico, where the Mets will hold a third press conference.

While in Puerto Rico, GM Omar Minaya and principal owner Fred Wilpon plan on sitting down with free agent first baseman Carlos Delgado, widely believed to be New York's next target in an orgy of offseason spending that also included a $53 million payout to pitcher Pedro Martinez.

The Mets have already offered Delgado a reported three-year, $30 million contract, but that is believed to just be an introductory offer – the Mets will likely either increase that proposal or wind up pursuing an alternate target for first base, including revisiting a trade for Boston's Doug Mientkiewicz.
