Mets add Lunar, Valdez

In addition to signing Kelly Stinnett and acquiring Benji Gil from the Seattle Mariners for cash considerations, the club also added catcher Fernando Lunar and infielder Wilson Valdez in separate moves Tuesday.

Lunar, 27, played in 78 games last season for Triple-A Iowa in the Chicago Cubs farm system, batting .252 with five homers and 23 RBI. He played in the Majors with the Baltimore Orioles from 2000-02, batting .224 in 97 games, and will serve as additional catching depth behind Stinnett and Ramon Castro for New York.

Valdez, 26, was claimed off waivers from the Chicago White Sox, with whom he played 19 games last season. He batted .302 with two homers and 15 RBI in 70 games with Chicago's Triple-A Charlotte club last year.
