Quotebook: David Wright

Earlier in the week, New York Mets third baseman David Wright shared a few thoughts on this weekend's Subway Series:

Wright, on playing in his first Subway Series: "It's fun, you know? It's the kind of thing you dream about, growing up a Mets fan. You root against the Yankees, and to be on the other side of that fence now and to be in the batter's box, it's going to give you that extra incentive."

On the challenges of performing in front of big audiences: "You have to stay within yourself and not get too caught up in that Subway Series or the things leading up to it. You have to go out there and play your game, and go out there and win ballgames - not go up there and try and hit five or six-run home runs."

On coming into the series hot off a three-game sweep of the Reds: "I think it's good. Any time you can get momentum going in against a team that has momentum going as well, it's good for morale. I think we're playing good baseball right now. We're hitting home runs, playing small ball, taking pitches and playing defense. That's going to win us a lot of ballgames."
