While Mike Cameron remains hospitalized in San Diego after Thursday's ugly collision with Carlos Beltran at PETCO Park, the outfielder is continuing to do well, the Mets said. Cameron had a follow-up CT scan on Monday and could be released as soon as Tuesday.
Beltran, meanwhile, is with the Mets in New York and underwent a battery of tests Monday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. The tests showed a zygomatic arch (cheek) fracture and prompted Beltran to consult with a maxillofacial surgeon, although he is still deciding whether or not to have surgery to repair the facial fracture.
Beltran also had an MRI of his brain performed and a neurologic evaluation, both of which were normal.
Doug Mientkiewicz, who continues to feel pain and fluid in his lower back, has nevertheless been cleared for a major league rehabilitation assignment with St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League. Mientkiewicz is scheduled to leave for Florida on Tuesday and should play on Wednesday against Palm Beach.
