After struggling in his first starts at the Triple-A level, losing all three and compiling a 9.20 ERA, Yusmeiro Petit showcased his best stuff in the International League playoffs. The Mets' top pitching prospect struck out 14 and pitched Norfolk past Toledo Thursday, 7-3.

With the victory, Norfolk has gained a 1-1 split in the best-of-five Governor's Cup playoff series with Toledo. The series continues Friday evening, as the Tides now hit the road to Fifth Third Field in Toledo.

The game started off slowly for Norfolk, as Marcus Thames again victimized the Tides by blasting a two-run homer – his second in as many games – off of Petit in the first inning.

But the Tides charged back to take a 3-2 lead in the bottom half of the frame, with Brian Daubach and Rodney Nye each contributing run-scoring singles off Toledo's Joel Zumaya.

Norfolk took a 6-2 advantage in the second on a three-run homer by outfielder Prentice Redman, giving Petit all the breathing room he'd need in front of a tiny crowd of 2,519.

The deceptive righthander retired 15 of 16 Mud Hens through one stretch before handing off a four-run lead to relievers Dae-Sung Koo and Manny Aybar for the ninth inning.

The Tides send Jason Scobie (15-7, 3.34) to the mound Friday against Toledo's Kenny Baugh (12-8, 3.38).
