Down on the Farm: Flores homers for St. Lucie

Down on the Farm for June 26 -- Most of the Mets' affiliates are held up by the weather ... Jesus Flores homers and Enrique Cruz drives in three for St. Lucie ... Brooklyn falls again as Jake Ruckle struggles with Aberdeen.

Norfolk Tides
Triple-A International League

Sunday's game between the Norfolk Tides and the Charlotte Knights was suspended due to rain.

Play was halted with Charlotte coming to bat in the home half of the third inning, and no score in the contest. Veteran right-hander Jose Lima started for the Tides and had retired all six batters he had faced, striking out one.

Binghamton Mets
Double-A Eastern League

Sunday's game between the Binghamton Mets and the Harrisburg Senators was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, with the first game beginning at 12:05 p.m. ET.

St. Lucie Mets
Single-A Florida State League

Enrique Cruz drove in three runs and Jesus Flores homered, helping starter Michael Devaney and the St. Lucie Mets past the Brevard County Manatees Sunday, 7-1.

St. Lucie did most of their damage in a six-run sixth inning, highlighted by Flores' two-run homer and run-scoring doubles by Yunir Garcia, Corey Coles and Cruz.

Flores, regarded by many as the Mets' top organizational catching prospect, is having a nice bounce-back year after struggling in 2005 at Hagerstown. His homer Sunday was his 12th; overall, Flores is batting .273 (63-for-231) with 21 doubles, 63 runs scored and 48 runs batted in, and has earned raves for his improving defense.

Devaney (7-3) was the beneficiary of the run support, firing five scoreless innings and scattering six hits to pick up the victory. Relievers Edgar Alfonzo and Rafael Cova limited Brevard County to one run and five hits over the final four innings.

Hagerstown Suns
Single-A South Atlantic League

Sunday's game between the Hagerstown Suns and the Lakewood BlueClaws was postponed due to rain.

The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sat., July 1, with the first game beginning at 6:05 p.m. ET.

Brooklyn Cyclones
Single-A New York-Penn League

The Brooklyn Cyclones lost their fifth straight to open the 2006 season Sunday, dropping a 7-1 decision to the Aberdeen IronBirds on the road.

Cyclones starter Jake Ruckle (0-1) allowed seven runs (six earned) and 12 hits in five innings, walking none and striking out one. Five of Aberdeen's runs were scored in the first inning.

Brooklyn scored in the fifth inning when Jason Jacobs doubled and came home on an Armand Gaerlan groundout.

Kingsport Mets
Rookie Appalachian League

Sunday's game between the Kingsport Mets and the Johnson City Cardinals was postponed due to rain.

The game – which was to be a doubleheader, making up a suspended game from Saturday - will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Monday, with the first game beginning at 6:00 p.m. ET.
