Inside Pitch: Pedro undergoes tests

The Mets did not have an update Tuesday on the status of pitcher Pedro Martinez despite a battery of tests in New York, including an MRI.

"Nothing has changed," a club spokesman said. "He will be re-evaluated (Wednesday)."

Martinez left Monday night's 13-0 blowout loss at Philadelphia with a strained right calf muscle after giving up a career-high six runs in the first inning.

Martinez returned to New York during the game, where he was examined by team physician Struan Coleman.

Martinez, who went on the disabled list with a sore right hip after his June 28 start at Boston, had thrown three quality starts since coming off the disabled list July 28.

REPLAY: With their starting pitching again a concern due to the calf injury to Pedro Martinez, the Mets needed, but did not get, a solid outing from Orlando Hernandez.

Hernandez gave up four runs in the first inning of Tuesday night's 11-4 loss to the Phillies.

Jose Reyes became the seventh Met in history to hit three homers in a game.
