Mets @ Rockies Series Preview

The series after a weekend of Mets nostalgia to commemorate their franchise's 40th anniversary, the Mets continued to play like the 1962 team. Known for their woeful play, they got swept for the third consecutive series as they head to Colorado and continue their road trip.

New York Mets (58-68) vs. Colorado (60-67)

Pitching Probables

Fri. 23 @ 9:05 -- Col - J. Jennings (14-5, 4.13) NYM - P. Astacio (11-6, 3.54)
Sat. 24 @ 8:05 -- Col - M. Hampton (7-13, 6.25) NYM - S. Trachsel (7-9, 3.73)
Sun. 25 @ 3:05 -- Col - D. Neagle (7-7, 4.98) NYM - A. Leiter (10-10, 3.39)

The New York Metropolitans have lost eleven in a row, eleven at home, and are in last place. Its a dreadful image and with any luck, a change of surroundings can be of assistance to this inadequate ball club.

Colorado has played decently of late, having split or won their last three series against Montreal, Atlanta, and Florida. They are 6-4 in their last ten and welcome the Mets, to hopefully continue their winning ways.

In the series opener on Friday night, Colorado sends out Jason Jennings who has pitched well this year. He is coming off a win against Atlanta in which he managed to go six innings while allowing two earned runs.

Opposing Jennings is the workhorse Pedro Astacio who has struggled of late. Pedro in his last start surrendered eight earned runs in three innings against the Dodgers in route to a loss.

On Saturday night, the Rockies send former Met Mike Hampton to the mound who is coming off a no decision in Atlanta. Steve Trachsel goes for the Mets and has pitched very inconsistently over the past few weeks.

In the finale, Colorado will throw out left-hander Denny Neagle. In his last start, he lasted five innings in route to a win. Al Leiter goes for the Mets and is coming off a loss in which he allowed one earned run over seven solid innings.
