One player is on the 40-man roster, while two were non-roster invitees. Left-handed pitcher Kevin Siegrist has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis and left-handed pitcher Barret Browning and catcher Cody Stanley have been re-assigned to minor league camp.
Browning, 28, was removed from the 40-man roster before camp, but received a non-roster invitation, anyway. He yielded three runs, two earned in two spring innings. Browning is expected to rejoin Memphis' bullpen.
Stanley, 24, pinch-hit for St. Louis against Atlanta on Tuesday. The catcher finished his abbreviated camp with a triple and an RBI in four spring at-bats. At A-Advanced Palm Beach last season, Stanley will make a bid to move up to Double-A Springfield for 2013. Both Stanley and Siegrist competed in the 2012 Arizona Fall League.
After the trio of moves, the Cardinals now have 48 players assigned to major league camp – 37 members of the 40-man roster and 11 NRIs. 24 are pitchers with 24 position players. Three of the 48 remain temporarily away for the World Baseball Classic; Carlos Beltran (Puerto Rico), Mitchell Boggs (USA) and Yadier Molina (Puerto Rico). Fernando Salas has returned to camp after Team Mexico was eliminated..
The three cut will join 166 players currently participating in minor league camp. (link to details for subscribers)
