Game Preview: Nationals vs Phillies 4/17/15

Max Scherzer goes for his first win in a Nationals uniform.

Doug Fister and the Nationals picked up the win agains Cole Hamels on Thursday, now they hope to repeat their success against Sean O'Sullivan. Max Scherzer has yet to pick up a win since he has donned a Nationals uniform, but he hopes to change his fortunes tonight at Nationals Park. Scherzer and O'Sullivan will have a rematch tonight, as they tee'd off in their last starts with the Nationals taking the win in extra innings.

Max Scherzer pitched very well in his first start as a National, but the team failed to back him up with some runs and picked up the loss even though he allowed no earned runs. Much like his first start, Max Scherzer had a great start where he struck out 8 and walked 2. Though he went 6 innings and allowed 1 run, he did not factor into the decision even though the team did go on to win the game. Scherzer probably doesn't care about the personal win/loss stat as long as the team wins, but I'm sure he'd love to pick up his first W on his new team.

Sean O'Sullivan had a very similar performance to Max Scherzer in his last start, as far as the box score is concerned. He went 6 innings, allowed 2 earned runs and struck out 6. O'Sullivan didn't factor into the decision as the game went into extra innings with the Phillies losing. Much like with Scherzer, O'Sullivan would like to pick up his first win of the season. The Nationals bats have been going lately, so hopefully O'Sullivan will leave tonight disappointed.
