Game Preview: Nationals at Marlins 4/24/15

The Nationals only picked up one win against the Cardinals, now they head to Miami to take on the Marlins.

The Nationals kicked off their series against the Cardinals with a win, sadly that would be the only one they'd get as the Cardinals ended up taking 2 of 3 games in the series. At a time like this, they need to play a team they can handle, one they should be able to beat. Enter the Marlins. The Marlins are 5-11 entering Friday's action and signs point to continued struggles for the Miami team. With the Nationals struggling like they have been to string together wins, this may be a good opportunity for the Nationals to pick up some wins and get on track.

Jordan Zimmermann's current ERA of 6.14 reflects two consecutive games in which he simply didn't seem to have his best stuff. Against Boston, he lasted only 2.1 innings and allowed 8 runs, 7 of which were earned. In his next start, he'd last much longer, but he allowed 4 runs and for the second consecutive time, he took the loss. Jordan Zimmermann has had some of his best games against the Marlins, however, including the final game of the 2014 season in which he got himself and the franchise their first no-hitter. Zimmermann has seen the Marlins a lot in his career due to the fact that both teams are in the same division and much like any pitcher, he'll have to be careful with the slugger Giancarlo Stanton.

Fortunately for the Nationals, they are going up against Mat Latos. Latos has had a pretty bad start to his season, his longest outing in 2015 being 5 innings and his ERA is currently sitting at 10.24. The Nationals are no doubt hopeful that Latos will continue to not have fun tonight as he takes the hill against them for the opening game of the series. Unfortunately, if the Nationals do have a wildly successful night against Latos, it will be out of the norm. In the times that Latos has faced current players on the Nationals roster, he's done very well.
