Nationals @ Cubs 5/27/15

Bryce Harper hit his 17th home run last night and Denard Span homered for the second consecutive game, but it wouldn't be enough as Kris Bryant tied it up in the 8th with his 7th homer and then the Cubs walked off in the 9th.

The Nationals lead for a majority of the game yesterday, but it ended up being all for naught as the Cubs new and big name Kris Bryant hit his 7th home run of the season to tie it up in the 8th, then Addison Russell hit a double for the walk off in the 9th inning to seal the victory. Though the Nationals did lose, they got a strong performance from Jordan Zimmermann who went 7 strong frames. Sometimes you just don't win the games and that is all there is to it. The Cubs got an equally strong performance from Kyle Hendricks and the fact that he kept them in the game can be attributed to their victory yesterday. Today, the Nationals will send Max Scherzer to the hill to take on the lefty Jon Lester at the historic Wrigley Field in the rubber game.

Max Scherzer is a man who really needs no introduction at this point. He has been amazing and hopefully he will continue to be amazing all season and tonight against the Cubs. It seems like he has ace stuff every time he takes the hill, but what is important about this fact is that he always gives his team a good chance to win the game. Scherzer has been dominant since he put on his Nationals uniform and with a little luck he'll continue to do so for the rest of the regular season and maybe the post season if the Nationals make it. Scherzer hasn't faced the Cubs much at all, but what he has seen of them he's been quite stingy.

Lester found himself in a Cubs uniform this season after having been traded to the Oakland A's last year, then after his contract was up he signed in Chicago. Lester has been his typical steady self this season for the Cubs and that has contributed to the team's overall success. Lester has gone 7 innings in 4 of his last 5 games with a 1.87 ERA in that time. He is in the midst of a strong stretch and there is reason to believe he'll continue to do well tonight. Lester has 111 plate appearances against current Nationals and in that time he's allowed only a .686 OPS.
