Nationals vs. Braves 6/23/15

The Nationals swept the Pirates and now welcome the Braves to Nationals Park

The Nationals completed the sweep against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday with a 9-2 victory. It was a great series and just what the Nationals needed. Max Scherzer pitched a no hitter and the Nationals offense did everything it had to do. Tonight, the Braves are in town and Alex Wood will take the hill as Stephen Strasburg returns from the Disabled List.

Alex Wood has been a steady presence in the Braves rotation for the last couple of years and he is just what the .500 club needs. While the Braves season is no doubt leaving a lot to be desired for the Atlanta fans, Wood provides some stability that the team definitely needs. Wood has played against the Nationals quite a few times and the Nationals have historically hit him fairly well. Most notably, Bryce Harper has annihilated Wood's pitches.

Stephen Strasburg will take the hill tonight for the first time since May 29th when he hit the DL for a neck injury. His season started out pretty bad and his numbers were not at all Strasburg-like. Now that he has had some time to rest and rehabilitate, the hope is that he will start to look like the pitcher everyone knows he is. Strasburg hasn't had the best luck against the Braves, but with Freddie Freeman now on the DL, that takes a big threat out of the Braves lineup.
