Nationals vs. Braves 6/24/14

Strasburg was sharp in his first start off the disable list as he lead the Nationals to a 3-1 win in the series opener.

Strasburg made his first start in quite a while last night due to the fact that he was suffering from a neck injury. He went 5 innings, allowed no runs, walked only 1 and struck out 6. It was good to see Strasburg pitch well after a pretty awful start to 2015 for the Nationals right hander. Tonight, Jordan Zimmermann will take on Shelby Miller in the 2nd game of the series at Nationals Park.

Shelby Miller came over to the Braves after the 2014 season and just like he was with the Cardinals, he's been pretty great. He has 2 complete games this season, both of them shutouts and he's done a pretty great job of going late into ball games this season. It will be the first time this season that he's seen the Nationals and his last start ended after 5 2/3 innings. While the Nationals haven't seen a whole lot of Miller, the 69 plate appearances favor him quite a bit.

Jordan Zimmermann has been solid this season, take a few no so great starts he's had this year. While he went 7 frames in his last start, he still picked up the loss since the offense was unable to put anything together for him. Despite this fact, it's always a good thing when your pitcher is consistently going into deep into games and giving your team a chance to win. He will aim to do that tonight and given that he's kept the current Braves lineup to a sub .600 OPS, there is a good chance it will be a good night for the right hander.
