Nationals @ Phillies 6/27/15

The Nationals picked up the win yesterday with another dominant start from Max Scherzer, but Yunel Escobar exited with an injury after being hit by a pitch.

The Nationals beat the Phillies yesterday behind a strong Max Scherzer and secured their 7th consecutive victory. Yunel Escobar was hit by a pitch and ended up leaving the game, putting a question mark over yet another Nationals player. While the Nationals are doing a great job of staying in the win column lately, the injuries could have repercussions and the Nationals could do with their players remaining healthy. Today, Gio Gonzalez will take the hill as the visitor, while rookie Adam Morgan will take the bump for the home team.

Gio Gonzalez has had something of an up and down 2015, but his last start was just what he needed. He went 7 innings, allowed no runs, struck out 4, and walked only 2. If Gio can build on his last start and be as solid as he can be, then the Nationals could very possibly be looking at a good game from him today. As always, Gio needs to keep the walks down just like his last start. The Phillies are in a bad frame of mind right now and he needs to help keep them that way. Gio has seen this current lineup quite a few times, but hasn't had the best luck against them. Hopefully today he will have a little more luck.

Adam Morgan made his MLB debut on June 21st and picked up the win for the struggling Phillies. he was quite good, too allowing only one run and striking out 6 in that time. It's hard to say what kind of pitcher he'll be today or for the rest of his big league career, but he is 25 years old and finally cracking into the major leagues. We shall see how he does today against the Nationals. Take a look at some of his stats from the minor leagues
