Nationals @ Braves 7/2/15

The Nationals lost 4-1 yesterday at Turner Field when Doug Fister allowed 4 earned runs.

Doug Fister went 6 innings, allowed 4 earned runs, struck out 4 and walked 2. 3 of the runs allowed by Fister were due to the long ball and would ultimately hand the Nationals the loss. The Nationals at the same time did not have much going on in terms of offense, scoring only one run off the Braves bullpen in the 7th inning. Tonight, Max Scherzer will take the hill for the visiting Nationals whereas rookie Manny Banuelos will make his Major League debut.

Max Scherzer didn't pitch a perfect game or a no hitter or even a complete game in his last start, but it was still a pretty great game from Scherzer. He went 8 innings, allowed 2 runs, and struck out 7 Phillies hitters to help the Nationals pick up the 5-2 win. Winning has been coming easily to Scherzer who just seems to have elevated himself to another level. Scherzer will no doubt have a game tonight that will give the Nationals a good chance to win, as he often does. Scherzer hasn't faced a lot of guys in the Braves lineup, but he's faced a few of them quite a few times. It'll be interesting to see how Scherzer handles this lineup tonight.

Manny Banuelos had Tommy John Surgery that has kept him from cracking the big league roster until today. He has done a great job in the minor leagues and he has definitely earned his promotion to the big leagues today. He spent a large majority of his professional career in the Yankees organization, but landed with the Braves triple-A affiliate before the 2015 season. At the age of 24 he will take a big league hill for the first time. Take a look at his minor league stats to get an idea of the type of pitcher he is.
